Sergio Gomez sign for Manchester City
Manchester City have completed the signing of Spanish left-back, Sergio Gomez, from Anderlecht on a four-year contract.
Left-back was one of the remaining positions for Manchester City to strengthen in the summer transfer window. Now, they have brought in a reinforcement to compete with Joao Cancelo.
Sergio Gomez has signed a deal until 2026, whereby he will get to play in the Premier League for the first time. He has previously had spells with Barcelona B, Borussia Dortmund (and their reserves), Huesca and latterly Anderlecht – where he played under Vincent Kompany for a time.
Manchester City have now bought him from the latter, giving him the number 21 shirt. The transfer fee is reportedly in the region of £11million.
“I am incredibly proud and happy to have joined Manchester City,” Gomez said via their official website.
“City are the best team in England and in Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football.
“To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.
“The number of trophies City have won over the past few years has been incredible and the style of football the team plays under Pep is the most exciting in Europe.
“Playing for and being guided by Pep and his coaches is going to be very special.
“I’ve heard so much about the City fans and how passionate they are. So I can’t wait to get started and to try and help the club achieve even more.”
Sergio Gomez begins new venture with Manchester City
At just 21 years of age, Gomez has already earned a variety of experiences in European football. Now, he is ready to compete for a place in one of the strongest squads in the world.
Head coach, Guardiola, recently confirmed that Gomez will be in contention for a place for Man City this season, despite previous beliefs that he could leave on loan for the time being.
City have made Gomez their fourth signing of the summer, following deals for Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega. He will be hoping to fulfil his potential at the Etihad Stadium.
